Day 1 On the Road West 2021

Underway and happy this morning. Jeff and I got to have one last visit with my Cousin Becky last night (so excited for her new adventures!), got the van all packed up and hit the sack. Up at 5am and a relatively calm and stress free shuffling of kids and dog into the van. On the road down the beltway by 6:05am.

Ready to roll.
Wickham has more room than anyone else!

210 miles down and a quick stop in Morgantown West Virginia to gas up, use the potty and rearrange a bit. Our new 2 in 1 travel potty is awesome and so easy to use and clean, thanks for the recommendation Linda! We brought a TON of snack, many in Costco sized bags. Each kid has a small Tupperware container that we refill with snacks each stop. This was a newly inspired idea and has made the trip so far much smoother. Each kid has snacks in appropriate portions and I am not constantly turning around and trying to get different foods to each of them. Yay!

Starting out in Virginia, we then travel through Maryland, West Virginia and on to Pennsylvania. The interstate makes a sharp turn so back into West Virginia along I-70. Next, we keep up the fast pace into Ohio. We haven’t been more than 50 miles away from home as a family for over a year! Even the long miles on the interstate are exciting and freeing at this point. And audio books are awesome, currently listening to The Mermaids of Eldoris.

Lunch was running around in the grass of South Vienna Rest Stop just west of Columbus Ohio. The place was very loud with truck noises but allowed plenty of space to run, play and eat.

On westward to a Loves truck stop to get gas and then another two hours to our final stop of the day, Comfort Inn in Crawfordsville Indiana just a bit west of Indianapolis. Full told mileage today was 636 miles. We said we were going to try and PUSH today and we did. Bonus is the kids and Wickham all did fabulously!! Picnic dinner outside the Comfort Inn and to bed. Night all.
